Scribe Notes 10/8/08

Agenda:
1. SCASI: focus on setting
"My Father's Garden"
2. Robert Frost: "A Considerable Speck (Microscopic)"

HW:
1. vocab ex 4
2. "Speck" Commentary

We started off by learning about SCASI. SCASI stands for Setting, Character, Action, Style, and Ideas. We read the poem "My Father's Garden" about a man who works in a mill and likes to visit the scrapyard. The mill is described as a hellish, horrible place to be, while the scrapyard is the garden, a nice relaxing place for the father to be himself. We underlined the settings and the words used to describe them and then discussed the settings in the poem, the differences in desriptions and how they affect the father. Then we discussed the details in the poem that suggest the way the narrator feels about or towards his father.
Class ended at this point and we weren't able to read Frost's "A Considerable Speck". However, we still have to do the commentary for homework. Also, don't forget to do vocab example 4.
